Dupath Well

Callington

Places to Visit

This charming well-house stands over an ancient spring, believed to cure whooping cough. Built by the Augustinian canons of the nearby St Germans Priory around 1500, it houses the remains of an immersion pool for cure-seekers.

In the medieval period around 40 Cornish springs or wells had structures built over them. Dupath is an unusually large and late example of such a holy well-house and has survived largely unaltered.

Access: - the well-house is positioned on a grassy area to the side of a narrow footpath, which may be uneven.

Parking: - designated parking area within the farmyard

Toilets: - none on site, available in Callington 1 mile away

Food: - none served on site, but cafes and shops in Callington 1 mile away

Dogs: - dogs on leads are welcome everywhere
