Join Emily the Victorian gardener for a walk around the Lanhydrock herbaceous border. Learn about some of the beautiful plants and flowers and what life was like for the people who worked outdoors over 100 years ago.

Next you can visit the historic Thatched Cottage to decorate your own terracotta plant pot and sow some seeds to grow at home.


£5 per child


  • Meet at the Lanhydrock gatehouse five minutes before your time slot begins.
  • The walk will take place along a short route through the garden so comfortable shoes are advised. The activity involves compost and paints so may get messy.
  • The walk will take place along a wheelchair accessible route through the formal and higher gardens. Please note this does involve some slight inclines. Potting and decorating activities will take place at the Thatched Cottage which is also accessible to wheelchair users.
  • Suitable for ages 4 and up accompanied by a caregiver. 

Usual Lanhydrock admission fees apply.

Access: - there is a 15 minute walk from the car park to the house along a gently sloping path. There is a buggy service which runs from 11am - 5.30pm from reception to the gatehouse. The trail route is over the parkland, with rough grassy terrain. They'll be some small inclines and descents. Not suitable for wheelchairs. Tramper available to hire from the Cycle hire for all terrain.

Parking: - pay and display car park - free for National Trust members

Toilets: - located near the Park Cafe and in the Stables courtyard 

Food: - The Park Cafe and Stables tea-room are open, serving drinks, light meals and snacks  

Dogs: - dogs on leads are welcome in the wider parkland
