Try some morse code challenges with Kelvin from Footsteps of Discovery who is a licensed CW operator. CW is a Morse transmission using a radio signal which uses a Carrier Wave, or Continuous Wave that is interrupted.  Find out how Kelvin has used CW for over 30 years to speak to people all over the world!

This activity is taking place on 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th August between 1pm and 4pm. The session is available to book separately or your can book a place with museum entry.

This activity is recommended for children aged 10+ but younger children are welcome to join in. Please book a ticket for each child in your party. Accompanying adults can attend free-of-charge.

Bodmin Keep, is an original army keep and has buzzed with military activity for generations. Now a museum, it inspires and connects young and old visitors with stories of ordinary soldiers doing extraordinary things. 

Cornwall’s Army Museum is a friendly and fun museum in Bodmin, Cornwall. They hold all kinds of events and activities on selected dates all year round, and welcome all visitors, including groups, children, and even well behaved dogs!

They are recognised as one of the finest Military Museums in the South West of England. 

As well as the collections, you can explore our the home of the museum - Bodmin Keep, which is a Grade II listed building. Bodmin Keep was the home of Cornwall's Military life for over 150 years, and still has original features such as the great stone staircases and original fireplaces. 

Covering a period between 1702 until 2007, the museum's displays tell the stories of the Cornwall Volunteers and Volunteer Militia, the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry (DCLI), they are extremely proud and honoured to be home to the National Collection of the Light Infantry (LI). A fine collection of medals, weapons, uniforms, paintings and artefacts (as well as a few surprises in the collection!) are clearly displayed and will appeal to all age groups, enhancing and bringing to life much of the country’s history covered in the National Curriculum. 

The museum has an extensive library and archive and a team of research volunteers who are proud to help over 300 families per year discover their military family history. Bodmin Keep is located 100 yds from the Bodmin and Wenford Railway - visitors to the steam railway receive up to 40% off museum entry with a valid ticket.  


Access: - the museum is on the first and second floor of the building, accessed by a flight of stairs. If you can carry a pushchair up the stairs there is room to push it round the museum. 

The museum say 'If you are unable to access the museum via the stairs, but wish to see or learn about a particular item or aspect of history, please get in touch and we will do all we can to assist.'

For visitors with a visual impairment, supported visits tailored to your needs including ’hands on’ sessions with museum objects are available to pre-book.

For visitors with autism, special quiet times and spaces are offered. 

Parking: - car park available to the rear of the museum, several pay and display car parks in walking distance if the museum car park is full
