Events

Next dates

Sorry, there are no future dates available

Visitors will be able to see the church bells in action and perhaps try to ring a bell. There will be a linked event at Pillaton where visitors will be able to see the bells in the tower. There will also be displays in the church.

St Andrew's Church, Calstock was consecrated around 1290. The church contains a medieval wall mural, an eighteenth century painted copy of King Charles's letter of thanks to the people of Cornwall, a number of painted panels in the ringing chamber celebrating events in the tower and an unusual porch fireplace. The churchyard has a grave commemorating two local men who died on the Titanic. There is a fine lychgate.

The tower bells were cast by John Pennington of Lezant in 1773, the year of the Boston Tea party. The bells were rehung in 2019. Experienced ringers will be on hand to explain the process and help visitors who want to "have a go". A camera in the bell chamber will relay pictures of the bells in action so that visitors can really appreciate the bells at work.

There will be displays about bell ringing and local history in the church and a number of churchyard and church trails can be followed.
